Question isolating conservatory from house

The previous owners of our house built a conservatory, then removed one window and one door of the house, so that the conservatory is now open through to the kitchen.

As this makes the house quite cold in winter, we are considering to replace both the window and the door and are wondering which materials we have to use to comply with Building Regulations?

- window: we would like to fit a horizontal sliding window, the ones often used as secondary glazing, rather than 'normal' external windows, to keep the feeling that the conservatory (which we use as dining room) is part of the house. Is this acceptable for Building Regultions in terms of the insulation they provide?

- door: could we fit an internal wooden door, maybe partially glazed or do we have to fit a patio door?

- Would a window company usually provide a certificate that the alterations comply with Building Regulations?

To comply with building regs - you will need to use EXTERNAL GRADE doors / windows - the secondary glazing type arrangement you mention will not do

Hi
If you fit a single glazed door or window, note that you may have to replace it if you get a visit by a Building inspector or you may get a problem when you come to move

As said, a conservatory is a temporary building it's not an extension and as such must be separated from the main house with external doors and windows.

Your surveyor missed a trick if they never mentioned it when purchasing the property.
It wouldn't be missed now with the HIP's required when selling.

Not only does it keep you main house warmer it's also more secure.

Is it an external door? If it was between the conservatory and the house and the conservatory is still there, isn't it an internal door?
