cracked floor

Hi,

Initially had conservatory floor 14ft. Several months had it extended to 19ft. So in effect had a new concrete slab attached to old one. There appears to be a hairline crack appearing over the joint. Is there something wrong or is it all part of the drying process?

Would be grateful for any advise.

Thanks Kashmir

Re: cracked floor

I would say this is quite normal

I assume that you do not have the floor / base covered (tiles / carpet etc) - otherwise you would not have noticed?

Provided similar foundations etc have been applied to the extended base / floor it will be fine

Re: cracked floor

Hi there,

thanks for your relpy. The initial 14ft floor footings were not all that deep. The extension footings were pretty deep. There are not cracks in the back wall yet so I am assuming then that is more than likely just the concrete settling and drying out?

Would be grateful for any response.

Thanks again

Re: cracked floor

Hi
How was the new footing and floor tied into the old, perhaps they should have broken up the old floor and laid a new one right through

Re: cracked floor

Hi,

Yes that was a possibility but would have proved to expensive as i was paying builder ?120 a day and then having to buy more concrete, etc on top. Didn't seem worth it.

Re: cracked floor

Hi
The only way I would have done it, was too break up the concrete so that I could lay 10mm across the whole floor with steel mess in the concrete, thats the only way for it not too crack
