k pilkington glass -does it cost more than gardian glass

hi
i have had a conservatory installed ,the contract was for pilkigton k glass and at the time of selling the conservatory i was told its the best hence costs more
the glass fitted though is gardian which conforms to uv levels etc but can the fitters change the glass without informing us
trading standards seems to say that we have to prove that pilkingtom k glass is moe expensive than gardian, is there any way of doing
thanks in advance for help

Re: k pilkington glass -does it cost more than gardian glass

You can relax a little bit here, Guardian glass is very good.
But Guardian is a company name and not a particular product name so to compare a company to a brand is not possible.
You need to find out the actual type of Guardian glass they used.

Once you have the actual costs depends on where they bought it and what kind of unit warranty they offer etc.

If it's just the Guardian low E glass product then the actual raw glass sheets are similar.
The cost will depend on who and how the glass was made into double glazed units.
It would be almost impossible to prove which would cost more or less as it all depends on the manufacturer / supplier.

So the good news is that the glass you have installed is of decent quality so you dont need to worry and is probably a like for like product to K glass but the bad news is that Low E glass (either K glass and Guardian) is by no means the best on the market.

Hope this helps.
Tanner

Re: k pilkington glass -does it cost more than gardian glass

I work for Pilkington so wanted to clarify some of your points.
If the contract was for Pilkington K Glass and anything else was fitted without your prior knowledge, this is called "passing off" and trading standards should be able to advise you on your course of action. Pilkington K Glass is the best selling and most widely known Low-e glass in the UK&Eire market (a Low-e or "Low-emmissivity" coating means it is an energy saving glass providing thermal insulation to keep your home/conservatory warmer in winter). Other people try to "pass off" their products as Pilkington K Glass as they do not have a well known brand.
Guardian is a glass manufacturer (Like Pilkington) and produce a range of glass products. They produce ordinary clear glass which does not have any thermal insulation properties. They also produce a "Low-e" glass which does have thermal insulation properties.
If you have ordinary clear glass then your conservatory will definitely not perform as you specified it should.
If you have another low-e glass then the issue is more about you not getting the glass you had specified.

I don't work for Pilks but if you like Yellow Low E Glass thats fine but in my opinion K-GLASS looks like you have been smoking near it for years..

The emissivity level of this glass is very standard and has been overtaken by many other makes of glass on the market today that are actually clear and neatral in colour.

Pilks K-Glass = Old technology, very old!

Re: k pilkington glass -does it cost more than gardian glass

thanks all
i have has low e glass installed but not the one i thought and paid for ie pilkigton glass
trading standatd tell me that i will have to prove that i have suffered financial loss for having different glass installed
for that i have to prove that guardian glass is cheaper tha k pilkigton
they took a case to court for similar misselling and the ruling went in favour of installer
i personally feel its blatant cheating but dont know what can i do
are all conservatory people so ethical

Re: k pilkington glass -does it cost more than gardian glass

Pilkington K Glass is usually one of the more expensive LOW E glasses - but I would not say it is always the best LOW E glass to get, there are now a good number of other alternatives around that dont have some of the issues Pilkington K Glass has (ie the "tint")
