if youre in any doubt if you shoudl use RSK, just read some of the ocmments about them on this website. if thats not enough, read the comments about them on blagger.com. then look for comments about companies called Kitchens, Maple Kitchens, Maple Industries, theyre all owned and run by the same man, vance miller. the quality is nonexistant, theyre overpriced, their customer service, like the quality, is nonexistant. do yourself a favour and dont go there. Kitchens Direct is a different company but the notorious mr miller might have used that name too in the past. i wouldnt be surprised, he changes company name as often as he changes his pants. whenever you see kitchens advertised as cheap as his, always remember, you get what you pay for.
No, as hohoho says, you're not right in thinking that Rock Solid Kitchens and Kitchens Direct are the same. I think Kitchens Direct would have something to say if Vance Miller started to use that name.
KD are more legit than RSK - but they're still a direct sales outfit and I wouldn't go to them for a cheap kitchen.
When I'm working with a very low budget, I look at IKEA or Wickes ... or, if you know someone in the trade (a fitter or a builder), or you can persuade them that you are a property developer yourself ... have a look at Howdens (you need a trade account).
If you choose IKEA, though, just be aware that there are no voids behind the units for pipes etc - these need to be at plinth height - or you can buy extra deep worktop to bring the units away from the wall (but that, of course, puts the price up).
Thanks.. went to B&q and got one from there, we are fitting it ourselves and although they might not be the cheapest they gave a really good service and helped us out immensley. btw the guy from RSK rang us back and asked if we were going ahead with it and was quite abusive to my hubby when he said no
I really like B&Q's new kitchen ranges ... if they could only get their deliveries correct with everything needed delivered in one go ... they'd be hard to beat.
You'll find that many direct sales people get nasty when you say you're not going to buy their kitchen - they mostly work on commission only - so they've spent hours with you, for no pay at all. Don't waste any pity, though ... they get paid very well when they do find a mug ... sorry customer ... to sell to.
Hi!I have just come to see if I could see what to do when the company (rock solid) get the order wrong, but after reading these texts it looks like I wont get very far! That is very scary for me because I suggested this company (after seeing how reasonable they are) to my mum and dad (who are both very ill) they have a friend fitting the kitchen and have just started to discover that bits are missing (even though i purposely asked the delivery driver to double check everything was there to start with and he totally charmed me by writing on the items, obviously missing a few but keeping quiet!!) its stressfull enough for my mum and dad so to know that i have to make a call to the compant in the morning and get nowhere seems very very unfair on my parents and its me who has to pretend its all ok so as not to worry them!! the thing is my dad has only got about another 2 months to live so to put him under any stress would be so wrong and he should be able to go knowing that my mum is enjoying her new kitchen he gave her as a his last gift! please can someone advise me on how to handle this before i have to speak to my parents tommorow morning and call the company with my `error list`!!???
Sorry lcmac, only just seen your message. How did you get on?
I think the only thing you can do is keep positive yourself. Tell your dad that there's bound to be things that go wrong occassionally with low priced kitchens and that you'll sort it out ... eventually.
hi thanx for the reply. There is only a certain few things missing nothing too drastic, a few shelves and some doors and a door that doesnt actually fit needs replacing. the lady `judith` said i had to send an email then wait for a reply.... not got anything so far so will call again tomorrow.
Yes ... our Vance doesn't miss any tricks as far as advertising is concerned. Some publications have banned his adverts - that's probably why he's trying the classified's. You'll still see ads under the "Kitchens" name in glossy mags, though.
You have to admire his energy ... if not his kitchens!
In some ways it seems to be an admirable thing to do ... source kitchens and worktops and appliances direct from China and Turkey and Mongolia and South Africa ... and then sell them to the public at very low prices. Trouble is, he doesn't seem to spend enough on decent staff or put enough quality control in place. Now that his business is so huge ... he should invest more money in those areas. Are you listening Vance?
