Re:Kitchen Cabinet Doors
Just before hitting the sack I came across your pleas for assistance and no matter how hard I tried I just couldn't close my eyes without thinking about your
plight. Follow this and you'll be shutting those doors with a smug look on your face tomorrow evening.
Decide which way your doors will open and fit the hinges to the doors with the screws provided (usually 1/2 inch long).Put the back plates aside for use later. Mark a vertical line 37mm in from the front edge of the cupboard. Holding the door in the open position against the cabinet and ensuring it is flush with the bottom edge, make a mark at the centre point where the hinge sits against the cupboard gable.
Now, using a square, extend the line from this centre point to the front edge of the cupboard. Where this centre line crosses the vertical line marked earlier, is the centre of the backplate fitting.
Each side of the centre point and on the vertical line, measure 16mm and make a mark. The two marks made will be 32mm apart.
If your backplates have arrived with the directa screws (broad screws with no point, approximately 10/12mm long, chrome finish) supplied and maybe connected to the backplate, you will need to drill through the cabinet at the marks 32mm apart made earlier, with a 5mm drill bit, High Speed Steel or Wood Bit, both available at DIY stores.
When drilling you must not go right through the cabinet if the end of it can be seen. A good tip is to wrap some insulation tape around the bit to use as a guage to ensure the depth you drill is less than the cabinet thickness.
Once drilled, screw the backplates to the cabinet and fit the doors to the backplates. You have adjustment, up and down on the backplate screws and you have adjustment both in and out and laterally with the adjustment screws on the hinge itself.
If your backplates are not supplied with directa screws I would suggest you use 16mm x 10 guage screws to fix to the cabinet.
There ! Now I can sleep sound.
Hope this makes sense and best of luck.
