we are remolding our kitchen, we have aprx 50 sq ft of new counter top space, we are trying to decide between granite or corian, we have 2 young children, if that matters for wear and tear!! please advise! tahnks

There's no right or wrong answer - it really depends on your preferences, and how you will use your new countertop / work top

The appearance as Granite is quite unique and I think difficult to replicate in any other material. The downside is that Granite must be sealed regularly, and damage can be expensive to repair.

In my opinion, you can't beat Corian? when it comes to durability and ease of maintenance. DuPont produce "Corian?" with some 72 different colors and over a dozen different edge styles. Your finished Corian countertop has no visible seams. It is non-porous and is guaranteed not to stain.

Granite ever time for me

Over the years I have tried my best to like Corian and have failed as Granite has such a depth of colour, is cool to the touch and nothing comes close to the beauty of a natural material.
Given that they both cost the same - Granite wins hands down every time.

I wouldn't use either they are both liable to movement and wear and tear sonme of the newer solid surface solutions such as Rehau, Swanstone Silica etc etc and the composite type Granites are much more practical, easier to install and most importantly much cheaper, Corian in particular is the most overpriced overhyped product on the market.

I'v heard of granite but what is corian????????

Corian is a fantastic product with seamless joins and 12mm of modified acyrlic on 28mm of chipboard. The problem with corian is the weight of the synthetic material on the board. The corian will eventually bow and warp due to the weight and construction of the material. Granite is a wonderful natural surface that normally comes in 30mm thickness and due to its natural process will never date, having said that buyers beware red wine cannot be removed and leaves an everlasting stain. Granite is now not too expensive, however the next big thing in worksurfaces are composites worktops which have Microban installed into the product. This kills bacteria dead unlike Granite which is a natural habitat for germs.

Having looked at them all I'd buy the granite from a specialist company seperate from the kitchen company
