composite door in a timber frame
We've not long moved to a 4 year old house which has Upvc windows but for some reason the front door has been given a timber frame.? The door (which we think is composite) has double glazed units in it and there is double glazing in a side panel to one side of the door plus there is an arched fanlight above the door/side panel, so the whole unit is an arch shape - I hope this is making sense!
Anyway, the previous owners didn't maintain the exterior timber work and last week, with the heavy rain we've been having, the rain started coming in through the side panel and making the carpet wet.? We've put polyfilla outside as a temporary measure as there doesn't seem to be any sealant between the glass and timber and the leak seems to have stopped for the time being.
Now I come to the point of my question!? As the door itself seems fine, is there any way we could just have a UPVC frame made but utilise the door we've got?? We've had quotes from a couple of replacement window/door firms but they say we need a complete new unit, including the door.?
Any advice would be appreciated.? Thanx!
