Upvc window fixing

I need a definitive answer to this simple question please: are Upvc windows normally fixed with screws along the bottom? Or are fixings to the jambs at the correct intervals considered adequate?
Although any fixings along the bottom could be sealed, the concern is that eventually water could seep into the chamber containing reinforcing, and also through into the brickwork below.

Re: Upvc window fixing

Hi

Very large windows and doors need fixings in the head and bottom of the product, on smaller items you could fix the sides and then use expanding foam. If you don't want to fix throught the window and cill, into the brickwork then before fixing, you could turn the window upside down and screw the cill to the window, before fixing

Re: Upvc window fixing

Thanks very much for your informative reply Gary.
Would you say that expanding foam (as a bedding for the cill) is now considered a better option than mortar?

Ta, Dodo.

Re: Upvc window fixing

Hi

You can run a bead of silicone and place the cill on that or what most fitters do, put the cill in dry (less mess if you have to move the window) then cilicone uder the cill, from the outside afterwards
